About

Hi, my name is Jennie and I love books! I have decided for 2012 to get back to basics and read some classics. You know, the books you should have read but not quite got round to yet? I will be reading all 100 books from the BBC The Big Read top 100 books, starting from the bottom and working my way up. Some books I have read before, but not for many years, and most will be completely new to me. I’m excited about starting my literary quest and I hope you enjoy my posts about my year of reading.

  1. Wow, book number one is The Lord of the Rings. That is really appropriate. But Lord of the Rings is a really hard book to read. JRR Tolkien’s writing is so detailed that readers can sometimes become lost in Middle Earth. Seriously, I’m not kidding. I never read beyond halfway of The Two Towers. Its been two years but I haven’t continued it yet. Its so complicated. By the way, good luck on reading those 100 books. I will be waiting for their reviews.

    • I have read Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit before when I was younger but I am looking forward to reading them again. I love Tolkien’s world and I really like all the poems and songs that pop up in his literature. It will be a mammouth book to end with but well deserving of the top spot. You should definitely try and give the book a go again when you have time, maybe treat it as seven books instead of three so that it’s easier to digest. Thanks for your comments and I hope you enjoy the rest of my reviews.

  2. Awesome, i’m doing a similar challenge. I’ll follow your progress as we’ve got a lot of the same books to get through 🙂

  3. The Big Read is a perfect mix of popular and classics- Not very pompous and prentious in selecting only classics while at the same time it does not exclude classics And I like the word loved here. Says a lot.

Do check on the big reads top 200 books. I plan to read them all as well.
